LETU Receives $5,000 Grant from Trinity Industries

[ARCHIVED NEWS RELEASE]

12-11-2017

LeTourneau University engineering professor Dr. Richard Baumer received a check for $5,000 from Trinity Industries of Longview to support a class project in welding/materials joining engineering.

The class project seeks to improve productivity in submerge arc welding for rail tank car manufacturing. The project also received support from Lincoln Electric through the loan of two Power Wave® AC/DC 1000® SD submerged arc welding power supplies and an automated gantry system.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Trinity Industries and Lincoln Electric and expose our students to real-world welding engineering problems," Baumer said. "This financial support will enable improved capabilities in our laboratory and will support many ongoing projects."

Following the check presentation, Baumer gave a tour of the Bill Kielhorn welding/materials joining laboratory and described the approach to the project.
