LeTourneau University Associate Vice President for Global Student Success Carlton W. Mitchell will present his research on student retention success at a conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, from January 5-9, 2019 at the 17th Annual Hawaii International Conference on Education.
Selected following a peer review process, Mitchell will present his paper titled “An Overview of a Comprehensive Plan to Facilitate Persistence to Degree Completion and Increase Retention of Online Student Populations.” Mitchell will share strategies that LETU has implemented to impact student retention and will attend other sessions and workshops on student retention.
His retention research looks at best practices across post-secondary institutions and leading retention experts in creating authentic connections with online learners that would support their desire to persist in their degree attainment. LETU is currently integrating some of the initiatives from this plan and will continue to track the effectiveness of changes implemented.
Mitchell is in his 13th year at LETU serving as an administrator, adjunct instructor and providing therapeutic services to the community in the university’s counseling center as an LPC-Intern. Mitchell earned his MBA from LETU in 2010 and his Master of Arts in Counseling from LETU in 2014.
